RepLadder for iPhone
How RepLadder works
The rules, in plain language. The short version is on the RepLadder page; this is the long one.
The ladder
Every exercise has a starting target and a rule for raising it, such as add 1 rep every workout, or add 5 seconds every 2 workouts. The target moves up only when you complete a day, which means reaching that day's target.
Missing a day costs you nothing. A day you don't finish repeats at the same target next time, a shortfall never carries over, and a missed day never pushes the ladder forward or back.
| Workouts completed | Next target (reps) |
|---|---|
| 0 | 1 |
| 1 | 2 |
| 9 | 10 |
| 24 | 25 |
| 49 | 50 |
| 99 | 100 |
| Workouts completed | Next target |
|---|---|
| 0 | 0:30 |
| 1 | 0:30 |
| 2 | 0:35 |
| 4 | 0:40 |
| 10 | 0:55 |
| 20 | 1:20 |
What completes a day
A day is complete when what you logged reaches that day's target. For reps, your sets add up, so you can spread them across the day in sets of any size, even one rep at a time. A total-time exercise adds up its holds the same way; an exercise that follows your longest hold needs one hold at the target. Finishing an exercise on a day it isn't scheduled counts too and moves the ladder up.
Past days keep the target they had. Editing an exercise changes the rules from today forward and never rewrites a day you already did, finished or not.
Schedules
Train daily, on the weekdays you choose, or every N days. An every-N-days exercise counts from your last completed workout: it is due again N days after that, stays due every day until you do it, and is due every day before your first workout.
A challenge can start today or on a later date. Until then it waits under “Not scheduled today” and stays out of reminders. The schedule only decides what appears first on Today and when reminders fire. It never changes the ladder.
How fast it climbs
You choose how much to add (zero keeps the target flat) and how often: every N workouts, or every N weeks. Weeks count completed workouts. N weeks is N times the scheduled days per week, so one week on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule is 3 workouts. On an every-N-days schedule a week is 7 divided by N, rounded: every 2 days is 4 workouts in one week and 7 in two.
An exercise can also carry added weight with its own ladder, in pounds or kilograms. The setting relabels the number and leaves its value alone.
Timed holds
An exercise counts reps or time, and you choose which when you create it. For time, the ladder follows either your longest single hold or your total time for the day. With a 60-second longest-hold target, two 30-second holds complete nothing and one 60-second hold completes the day. Totals in the Summary count everything you did either way.
The timer counts you in, beeps through the last three seconds, and logs the hold when it ends. If you stop early it offers to log the seconds you held. It keeps going with the phone locked, and its sounds follow the volume buttons.
Goals, and what comes after
A goal can be a number of workouts, reps (or seconds) in a single day, a running total, or open-ended. When you reach one, the exercise stays on Today for the rest of that day, then lives in the Summary and leaves your reminders.
From there you can set a new goal beyond what you have already done, or hold the target steady in sustain mode, which pauses the goal and keeps the exercise on Today and in reminders until you resume climbing. You can also restart a challenge at a target you choose and keep your log, or suspend an exercise to take it off Today without losing its history.
Sharing a challenge
Share Challenge sends one or more exercises as a link. The link carries the plan: names, schedules, starting targets, how fast each climbs, and goals. It never carries your reps or progress. Your friend's RepLadder shows the exercises and adds the ones they pick, starting at the bottom of the ladder.
Weight is sent as a bare number, so a pound sender and a kilogram friend see the same figure. Without the app installed, the link opens a page that lists the challenge and says to tap the link again once RepLadder is on the phone.
